Jewellery retailer Steven Stone finished 2007 in fantastic style with record sales figures for the Christmas period. The company, specialising in high quality diamond jewellery including diamond rings, diamond necklaces, earrings, pendants and bangles, saw sales figures for December increase 30% on the same period last year and 15% up on November’s sales. These sales figures are a great start to what is an exciting year for the family diamond jewellery business.

What does this have to do with wine? The same way that Americans inherently feel purebred dogs are of a higher quality ever pay $1,000 for a mutt? or take one to a dog show? Americans are stuck on purebred wines. We drink merlot. We drink chardonnay. We drink white zinfandel. But there s a ton of blended wines just waiting to nuzzle you with their wet noses, and they ve got enough well-heeled cousins that they really should not be called mutts.

SOROPTIMIST president Pat Shore has warned that Harrogate town centre will look “miserable” next Christmas unless fundraisers come forward to help finance the festive lights. Mrs Shore is urging people to help keep the Harrogate at Christmas fundraising committee going, after the Harrogate branch of the Soroptimists stepped down at the start of 2008.

The money was raised after employee Isobel Moran, whose son attends the club, organised a raffle at the company s Christmas party. The group for the disabled and their peers, is run by Kirklees Council every Wednesday from 7-9pm at the Jubilee Centre in Bradley Wood.

Among the many wild plants and flowers and other natural items that adorn our tree are sprigs of white-blossomed pearly everlasting . . . maroon-colored cups from the northern pitcher plant . . . sweet goldenrod, with its light, aniselike scent . . . cones of staghorn sumac, picked crimson red in July . . . buttonbush branches, with their nubby, marblesize pods . . . shimmering, winglike, translucent seedcases from a variety of “weeds” . . . sprigs of sweet sorghum . . .

Six members of the Number One Control Centre regiment based at RAF Kirton Lindsey came to North County Primary School to meet the children. They made the visit to thank them for the 66 shoe boxed presents they sent over to the regiment for Christmas while they were out on a 90-day tour of Afghanistan. The RAF personnel show the children pictures of colleagues opening their presents and what conditions were like out in the desert country.

For a long time, Best Animated Short has been one of those Academy Award categories where the average viewer has seen exactly none of the nominees. In a high-profile year, one or two of the contending titles may be familiar thanks to pre-feature exposure in theaters or a choice DVD inclusion. For the most part, though, the cartoons are foreign, if not in origin than in lack of distribution.

Polegate residents and businesses have been rewarded for their efforts in the 2007 Christmas lights competition. The prizes are handed out. e07068j Polegate’s mayor John Rogers presented the winners with certificates and prizes at the official presentation, at the council offices.
