Talk is offered about Christmas ornaments today

POUGHQUAG - A talk on traditional Christmas symbols will take place at 7:30 p.m. today at the Beekman library. The lecture is sponsored by the Beekman Historical Society. A guest speaker from the Independence Belles will speak about “Christmas Symbols, Legends and Traditions.” Society members are encouraged to bring old Christmas items for show and tell. Call Jane at 845-724-3414. The library is at 11 Town Center Blvd., off Clove Valley Road.

With 42 Christmas trees, she’s an “ornament junkie”

Her largest tree takes prominence in the family room, and is 7.5 feet high. The smallest - and the one she’s not sure she should even count except that she does decorate it with its own teeny ornaments - is 6 inches. Most of the smaller ones are 2 feet high. Each tree has a theme, which could be Winnie-the-Pooh or romance or cartoon characters.

Christmas Ornaments to Benefit Michelle Young’s Daughter

Raleigh A group of friends of Michelle Young are doing what they can to benefit the slain 29-year-old’s daughter. Carol Nelson, who was Young’s supervisor in Progress Energy’s tax department in Raleigh, and others will sell ladybug Christmas ornaments in Young’s memory during First Friday in downtown Raleigh. According to Young’s mother, she loved ladybugs. The money will go into a scholarship fund for Young’s daughter, Cassidy.

36,000 Christmas ornaments recalled

As families prepare for the upcoming Christmas holiday season by adorning their Christmas trees and homes with a variety of colorful lights and other decorations, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission is warning consumers about a potentially dangerous product that has been contanimated by lead paint and made in China. According to CPSC, approximately 36,000 Christmas ornaments have been recalled.

Scrap Book Christmas Ornaments

Here s a fun project for the kids to do. Grab some of those old scratched CD s, or the samples that come in the mail, your paper scrap stash, bits of ribbon, your glue and an assortment of small miscellaneous decorative 3-D items. Use extra photos, or make some paper copies. These make tree ornaments, or can be hung from your mantle. Have your child write a note on the back sign their name and date, they ll make keepsakes for the years to come, or even a fun Christmas gift for grandparents.

White House Christmas ornaments feature work of Dunbar artist

Patience, precision and a whole lot of practice have earned a West Virginia artist his third trip to the White House. Steve Cassle of Dunbar was commissioned to paint three official White House ornaments for the Christmas tree used in the Blue Room. In keeping with this year s celebration of the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service, artists from each state were commissioned to paint specific scenes on the softball-sized ornaments sent to them.
