It’s already time to think of troops for Christmas

Both sides referred to our military, their families and the mission they are currently on. It made me stop and think of my own experience growing up in a military home. “Army brat” was the term given to kids like me. I remember always moving from one place to another.

Just when I had a new best friend, it was time to move again. I got to learn my geography well, since I lived in six different states (twice in one) and one foreign country before I was 16 years old. I truly understand the life lived by the families of those who serve our country, and I know it’s nice to have a little piece of home with you when you’re away. In the city of Tracy, there is a group of moms, wives and families that are collectively known as Military Moms.

The group formed to send care packages to local troops that are currently serving the U.S. “We are honored to support all our troops in Tracy and their buddies,” says founder Marilyn Chorley. “I have both my kids, Michael and Andrea Chorley, home from Iraq. There’s no describing the excitement you feel when you see their faces coming off the plane.

They are headed back this week, and this will be the fourth Christmas in a row that they won’t be home.” If you would like to know more about Military Moms, they’ll be at the dedication of Veterans Park on Nov. 1 at 11 a.m. There is a way to help local service Advertisement folks such as Michael and Andrea Chorley. Send them a care package for the holidays. Pick up a free flat rate box from the post office and fill it with lots of familiar goodies.
