Blue Star Mothers of north OKC/Edmond, headquartered at Peace Lutheran Church, in cooperation with Henderson Hills Baptist Church, has set Nov. 15 as the date for its holiday pack of Christmas boxes. The boxes will be mailed to deployed troops around the world, said Sherry Stensrud, vice president of the BSM chapter. The boxes, to contain small necessities and nice-cities, are to be mailed early to reach our military people prior to the holiday season.
This is the first time the BSM chapter has coordinated its program with Henderson Hills, where the Nov. 15 packing will take place beginning at 9 a.m. Members and guests of Peace Lutheran and Henderson Hills as well as interested neighbors are invited to participate in the packing. Our donation drive is now under way, Stensrud said. Edmond s BSM has conducted packing sessions since 2006 resulting in the shipment of about 5,000 boxes to our troops.
Among the donation centers for this holiday pack are all the Edmond fire stations, the Edmond Area Chamber of Commerce and Transformation Fitness Center, 14701 N. Kelly. Tax-deductible supplies also may be brought to any Tinker Federal Credit Union, the Trails and Rankin Street YMCAs, the 15th Street Cut Ups Salon of Edmond, the Body Piercing and Atomic Lotus Tattoo on N.W. 23rd Street in Oklahoma City, David Stanley and Reynolds Ford and the Mustang Mid-High School.
Schools in Edmond serving as donation centers include Centennial Elementary, John Ross Elementary and Santa Fe High School. Donation needs lists and BSM collection containers are available at all locations, Stensrud said. Henderson Hills and Peace Lutheran churches will accept donations through Nov. 14 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. For more information, call Al Balaban, 615-3788 or 216-9492.
