In case The Roundup hasn t provided you with enough subtle clues that Christmas is, indeed, just a few months away, here s another audition notice for another production of A Christmas Carol. The Towne Players are looking for 17 women and 19 men, ages 10 and up, to play the numerous roles in the Romulus Linney s adaptation of Charles Dickens classic. Unlike the musical version offered up by Niagara Fine Arts Program this year, only a cold reading from the script will be used for auditions.
Backstage helpers are also being sought. Auditions will be held at 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday in room 113 at the Sheridan Parkside Community Center, 169 Sheridan-Parkside Drive in the Town of Tonawanda. For more information, call Randy Rumley at 693-1836. ••• Basket auctions, food, beer and a chance at great Sabres tickets are up for grabs this Sunday at a benefit for the Hanes family of Ransomville. Karen Hanes recently decided to serve as a live liver donor for her husband Kevin.
The surgery requires serious medical attention to ensure health on both sides of the donation. The family s financial burden from dealing with Kevin s chronic medical condition is the benefit of this fundraiser, but a portion will also go to build guest housing for families undergoing transplants at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. The event kicks off at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Cambria Fire Hall, 4631 Cambria-Wilson Road, and the basket drawings start at 5 p.m.
A $10 donation puts you in the running for 100-level seats to the Dec. 12 Sabres home match against the New York Islanders. Donations to the family can be made directly by sending checks to Hanes Family Benefit, care of First Niagara Bank, 2547 Youngstown-Lockport Road, Ransomville, NY 14131. ••• The Roundup s editor is a big fan of that old self-esteem-boosting chestnut, I told you so.
