The Fortuna Christmas Music Festival and Ferndale-based radio station The Point (KWPT 100.3/102.7 FM) have teamed to present a KWPT broadcast of a two-hour segment of the festival on Monday (Christmas Eve) beginning at 8 p.m. and again on Christmas Day beginning at 9 a.m. The Dec. 9 festival included nine performing groups for an afternoon of holiday music, a news release stated.
Excerpts from the performances of the All Seasons Orchestra, groups from the Fortuna Union High School Music Department, the Humboldt Harmonaires, Humboldt Accordionaires, Tuba Christmas, Ferndale Community Choir, Quartet Arioso, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Choir and the Scotia Band will be featured. We re so lucky to find a group of supporters that could extend this gift to all of Humboldt County, festival committee member David Reed said.
The broadcast is sponsored by the Johnson Consulting Group, of Fortuna, a financial firm, and was recorded and edited by Cloud Twelve LLC, a Fortuna-based music producer. The Fortuna Christmas Music Festival has taken place for 31 years. The festival was started by Dorothy Early and has been continued by the Fortuna Chamber of Commerce. The goal of the festival, the release stated, has always been the one set out by early in 1977: to be a Christmas gift to the community.
