Tom Patrick Students in the Hawaiian Immersion Language Program put on a Kula Kaiapuni Christmas concert, in which they performed a variety of Christmas songs in the Hawaiian language last Wednesday evening at Molokai High School. From Papa Malaa o to Kula Ki eji e to Papa Makua, everyone in Hawaiian immersion or who is taking classes had a chance to belt out a tune.

It s just a way for the kids to show the parents what they re doing, just to involve some community spirit, get the parents involved, said Kalae Tangonan, president of Hui Makua, the parent group for the immersion program. And then us making the main dish and dinner is just a mahalo to the parents for always showing up, always bringing food. For those interested in learning the Hawaiian language, there are free classes that are open to the public taking place every Tuesday evening from 5-7 p.m.
