After-Christmas Shopping

Many people also came out Wednesday to hit up the sales and take advantage of the gift cards they received as presents. Over the past two months $26 billion worth of gift cards have been sold across America. That is up 42% since 2005. CBS 21 News spoke with many shoppers using gift cards on Wednesday. They said that they like them because you don’t have to make any returns or exchanges. It’s also relatively simple to use and get something you want that someone else might not have bought for you.

However, some say there is some fear associated with them. They worry about the cards expiring or losing their value over time. Another worry is that smaller businesses could go out of business by the time you get around to using the card. According to the Attorney General’s office stores determine the expiration date of a gift card. There is no law requiring them to do so. The AG’s office also says that if the gift card is expired don’t throw it away. Take it to the retailer.

There is a very good chance they will honor that card.
