Cards are savored long after Christmas is over

-->

And what about all of the cards that friends and family took time to buy, address, stamp, and send, just as you did theirs? I hope you have them nicely displayed or in a neat stack to study and enjoy after Christmas. If you are like me you open and read them too quickly as they arrive. I do have a rule to take time in January to read all of the cards and letters again, to give careful thought to the senders, and maybe even write a note in return.

Even then I do not pitch Christmas cards but save them for several months, perhaps until the next holiday season. They are a valuable link to people who think enough of us to make the effort to send them. If any readers with an artistic flair have a creative, useful way to save cards, let me know.
