It s already beginning to look a lot like Christmas in stores. This weekend it will be even harder to miss. For example: City Lights debuts tonight with a ceremony at 6 p.m. at Barney Allis Plaza, 12th and Wyandotte. The Downtown Marriott starts showing its holiday lights on its 22-story fa ade. KUDL morning show hosts Dan Hurst and Darcie Blake are the emcees of the program, which includes the unveiling of Kettles on Parade.
It s kind of like the old Cows on Parade exhibit, but this one features elaborately decorated oversized fiberglass kettles. Lee s Summit High School marching band will play, and there will be an attempt to set the Guinness record for the largest gathering of bell ringers. These events are scheduled for Saturday: The Marillac Enchanted Forest is now open at Union Station and runs through Dec. 1, with more than 100 holiday-themed trees and wreaths on display. It s free. The Marillac gala, Enchanted Evening of Cocktails Cuisine, is Saturday at the station, but no further reservations are being accepted. Union station.org. 816-460-2020. The Queen City Tree Lighting starts at 2 p.m. with Santa s arrival, by sleigh, at Independence Square, Main and Lexington streets.
Dancers, singers and musicians will entertain afterward, with sleigh rides around the square available for $2. The lights go on at 5:55 p.m. Call 816-252-6653 for more information.
