Festive fun to help make your Christmas sparkle

PLANS for a fantastic festive spectacular in the run up to Christmas in Daventry are well underway. The annual Christmas light switch on event will take place in front of the gazebo at the top of Sheaf Street on Friday, November 23, with the Mayor of Daventry flicking the switch. Daventry Town Council, which is organising all of the Christmas events in the town this year, has organised a whole host of entertainment throughout the afternoon leading up to the switch on at 5pm.

Between 3pm and 5pm Northants 96 radio presenters Jagger and Woody, who also attended last year’s event, will be leading the entertainment, which will include music from several different bands, Christmas tunes and games. There will also be a hog roast and gingerbread men, as part of the refreshments. This year’s Christmas tree will be at the top of London Road, and the council has organised a Best Dressed Window competition, with a snowman theme, for all the businesses in the town centre.

Flyers will be delivered on November 15, entries must be received by November 23, and a list of the businesses taking part and a voting form will appear in the Daventry Express on November 29. Members of the public will be able to vote for their favourite window, and the winner will be presented with a certificate on December 13 by the mayor.

A children’s Christmas party will be held in the Saxon Suite between 2 and 4pm on December 8, with a snowman theme, and the mayor’s charity Christmas parade will take place on December 14. The parade will see school pupils, the ATC band and Daventry Choral Society walk round the town singing Christmas songs and collecting money for the Friends of Danetre Hospital and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance.
