Nation’s Christian roots make it ‘Merry, Christmas’

History relates a potential wide swing of time between the Nativity and the Magi’s arrival. That’s not as important as the ancient records that have come down to us. The number of early gospel scrolls and texts, which include the birth of Jesus, outnumber the next nearest surviving ancient documents — Homer’s ”Iliad” and ”Odyssey” — by about 70 to one.

That means people back then thought enough about the birth, life, death and resurrection of Christ that those written accounts were the most important documents of the ancient world. That’s in part why The Holy Bible remains the most published book today.
