The party will be held at the Peterborough United executive suite on Sunday, November 18, prior to a trip to Disneyland Paris on Sunday, December 2. The fund founded in January 1997 by city councillor John Fox and a former landlord of The Spade and Shovel pub in High Street, Eye, near Peterborough aims to “make Christmas special for special children”. To date, it has raised more than £320,000 and arranged for 280 children to visit Disneyland Paris.
Peterborough City Council’s street warden supervisor, Steve Mayes, said: “The Rudolf Fund’s guiding principle is that all contributions benefit the children, and nothing is taken out for administration, so these gifts are very much appreciated.” Mr Fox said, in less than 24 hours, the street wardens had collected enough sweets and stocking-fillers for all the 50-plus children attending the party.
He added: “It shows that while the street wardens are primarily responsible for patrolling the city centre, their dedication extends to special acts of kindness such as this.
