Community Care of Rutherford County (CCRC) is selling 10 fully decorated Christmas trees to benefit Toys for Tots. “We figure you come out and bid, get a tree for a little bit and the proceeds go to a great cause,” said Shannon Thomason, activities director at CCRC. The trees will be sold in a silent auction from Saturday, Dec. 1 through Monday, Dec. 10. The trees and decorations will be ready for pick up Tuesday, Dec. 11.
Local businesses and churches donated the artificial trees and decorated them in unique themes, just in time for the holidays. Farmer Brothers Insurance “Insure your Toys” themed tree is hung with toys and ornaments donated from national insurance companies. The Hartford Insurance Company donated plush moose and toy 1957 Ford cars. Farmer Brother’s agents hung toy gingerbread houses from their tree’s branches.
“We just had a ball decorating it with all the toys the companies gave us …” Agent Kathy Claiborne said. “It’s really cute.” Hair Five-0, Bacara Salon and Dayspa, Chris Luckett Paint Company, Hoover’s Gap Church and Blankenship Methodist Church also donated trees. “When you win a tree you take home the tree and all the decorations,” Thomason said.
Proceeds from the tree auction will be used to take Community Care residents shopping for toys, which will be donated to Toys for Tots. Community Care is holding a Holiday Open House Monday, Dec. 10 to get residents in the Christmas spirit and announce winners of the silent auction.
