Galveston residents urged to recycle Christmas trees

When the time comes to recycle your Christmas tree, Galveston has you covered. The Galveston Partners in Composting UTMB, the City of Galveston and Moody Gardens are encouraging residents to go green this holiday season by recycling their trees. The Christmas Tree Recycling Drive will be held Dec. 22 Jan. 14. All live evergreen trees, including flocked trees, will be accepted. To ready your tree for recycling, remove all tinsel, lights, decorations and plastic or metal stands.

Last year s drive diverted more than 500 trees from the local landfill. Drop off sites: UTMB The corner of Port Holiday Drive and Harborside Drive, at the fenced area at the base of the water tower. City of Galveston The City Recycling Center at 702 61st Street (closed Dec. 24-35, Jan 1). In addition, the city will provide curbside pickup service from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5 (53rd to 1st Street) and Friday, Jan. 11 (53rd Street to Point San Luis).
