By Daniel Miller 24-Hour News 8 @ 6:00 FORTVILLE, Ind. - For some families, it s a holiday tradition to search and cut down the perfect Christmas tree A Hoosier tree farm is giving families who need them, trees of their own. “It s really tough during the holiday season to be away from your family and friends,” Sgt. Nicole Starr with the Indiana National Guard said. Piney Acres Farm is busy with customers picking out trees. “Our first Indiana Christmas Tree.
We want it to get as fast as possible,” one tree customer said. It s a tradition for some people to cut their own tree down for the holiday. Rex Zenor with Piney Acres Farms says it s a privilege to cut trees for people who need them most. “It just makes me feel really good knowing that they are going to enjoy something from back home,” Zenor said. About 60 trees from Zenor s tree farm will go to U.S. Troops.
“They re going to go all over the United States and overseas to Afghanistan, Iraq, all the places where we got troops,” Staff Sgt. James Mounts with the Indiana National Guard said. Each one has a personal message from a Hoosier saying thanks. “We send our warmest wishes for a very Merry Christmas and our deepest gratitude for all of you are doing to help bring peace to the World,” Staff Sgt. Mounts read from one of the messages. “It brings a little piece of home to them,” Sgt. Starr said.
Staff Sgt. Mounts and Sgt. Starr of loaded the trees into trucks. They even picked up handmade decorations made by children. “It s got little words on it that says God Bless You. Soldiers to have Merry Christmas,” Staff Sgt. Mounts said. “Being a soldier that s been deployed several times, being able to have something that s from the states, coming over there, it s just like getting a care package, it brings a little home to you.” “It s all part of the giving spirit.
