Edel Coffey Economists always get a bit nervous around this time of the year, if consumers are not doing as much Christmas shopping as they should be. They warn the country will go into an economic tailspin if we don’t start spending indiscriminately.
I take a more philosophical approach, such as, perhaps the reason has nothing to do with money and a lot to do with the fact that Christmas shopping is soul-destroying, grinding toil and perhaps the nation is trying to put it off for as long as possible. Well, that’s what I’m doing anyway.
