Nominate, vote for best Christmas lights displays

Which individuals will be known as the Clark Griswold of Sidney? The Sidney Herald, in cooperation with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 988, is holding a holiday lighting contest with cash prizes provided by the local union of 100 and 50. “Our area has traditionally taken pride in its Christmas lighting displays,” Libby Berndt, publisher of the Herald, said.

“We’re hoping this becomes a tradition for us, just like watching “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.” Clark Griswold’s efforts of decorating his home for the holidays is a treat for many families.” The public is encouraged to nominate a home by Dec. 10 by calling 433-2403, faxing 433-7802 or e-mailing homespun@sidneyherald.com. “With so many people who love to light up Sidney’s streets for the holidays, it’s going to be difficult to select the best displays,” Berndt said.

The list of nominated homes will appear in the Dec. 12 and Dec. 16 papers so people can drive by and enjoy the decorated homes and then vote for their favorite display. People can vote starting Dec. 12 through the Herald Web site by clicking on the “Christmas Lighting Contest Nominees” on the News Update. Choose the address of your “Griswold home” and make your selection in the comment area. Residents can also vote by calling the Herald office or e-mailing their choice.

The winner of the people’s choice award will receive 50 in chamber bucks. In addition, the Sidney Kiwanis Club has agreed to take on the task of selecting the top winner. That household will receive 100 in chamber bucks.
