Thousands of people make the regular visit to the North Shields Victorian Christmas Market, some travelling from as far as Wales. And with just a few weeks before this year’s event, which takes place on December 8 and 9, organisers are preparing for the influx of stallholders now expected to be more than 100. Visitors will have a great choice of seasonal gifts and crafts plus a fantastic line-up of festive entertainment.
Back by popular demand are the ice sculpting demonstrations with a yuletide theme, a select ion of carol singers and brass bands, street performers and fairground rides. The market, held in Northumberland Square, is already the largest of its kind in the region and continues to grow each year, being organised by North Tyneside Council, North Shields Chamber of Trade with support from other organisations.
Maggie Richardson, president of North Shields Chamber of Trade, said: “We’re thrilled that this fabulous event is back again and there’s not long to wait now before the fun begins. “With a great choice of stalls, huge range of entertainment and one or two surprises up our sleeves, I’m sure this year’s market will be one to remember.” Coun Eddie Darke, cabinet member for leisure, tourism, culture and communities, said: “Like everyone else, I’m looking forward to this year’s event.
