Since the discovery of dangerous levels of lead in the pain used on several different children’s toys, which had been manufactured in China the problems for the company have continued.
An investigation was launched by the American consumer safety agency and as a result of safety checks, around 1.5million toys were removed from shelves across the globe, including many popular childrens figures, which are sure to be requested once again in the approach to Christmas.
Problems continued in the backlash of this crisis, Mattel and its surrounding companies quickly tackled the problem however the situation progressed deeper with the head of the Lee Der company committing suicide, recently reported after Chinese authorities had placed an export ban on the firm, who were a contracted manufacturer for Mattel.
Mattel must now look forward to the oncoming festive season and prepare for the demands that will be made on their manufacturing abilities, they not only need to keep up with production but also to ensure that faith in their products has not been lost, as this will cause a dramatic effect on their Christmas sales. Now that the issue is being dealt with the question will be how much faith the consumer can place in Mattel Toys.
