Wal-Mart announces cheap toys for Christmas

Philippines News.Net Thursday 9th October, 2008 In the US, major retailer, Wal-Mart, has announced cuts over most of its Christmas range. Expecting a weak holiday shopping season, the company said it would reduce prices throughout its 3,500 stores across the country. Wal-Mart said the decision to make radical cuts had been made after a survey showed consumers would start Christmas shopping earlier this year in hopes of stretching Christmas spending.

Potter Park Zoo Brightens Up Holiday Display With LED Christmas Lights

Last year we went out and bought about 10 sets of LED Christmas lights for the display as an experiment and the lights were really, really, striking it was a noticeable difference The new LED lights will consume 10 times less energy than the incandescent lights they are replacing. Our goal is to eventually replace all of our Christmas lights with LEDs, which should result in a substantial savings to the county, said Diane McNeil, executive director of the Potter Park Zoological Society.

Christmas Cheer begins accepting applications on Monday

Times-News Christmas Cheer, which provides Christmas help for the less fortunate of Alamance County, plans to open its doors to applicants Monday through Oct. 17. The hours will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday. The address is 331 S. Main St. in downtown Burlington. Christmas Cheer, a United Way Partner, acts as the clearinghouse for getting food, clothing and toys to the less fortunate.

The Iowa Department of Revenue reports sales tax receipts grew by 1.7 percent last quarter. That’s smaller than most years, but bigger than most surrounding states.
