The Salvation Army has announced registration dates for the 2008 holiday season assistance program, Christmas Cheer. Families who would like to receive assistance during the holidays must register and complete the application process. The registration location, dates and times and requirements are as follows: - Oct. 29 - 31 from 9 a.m. until noon. - Nov. 6 from 9 a.m. until noon and 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. - Nov. 7 - 8 from 9 a.m. until noon - Nov. 24 from 9 a.m. until noon.

Bladenboro Police Department to kick off Christmas for Kids

Rhonda Griffin, Journal Editor BLADENBORO The Bladenboro Police Department will kick off its annual Christmas for Kids campaign on Nov. 1. The fund drive assists students from Bladenboro Primary School for the holidays. The children are chosen by the teachers and guidance counselor of the school, Bladenboro Police Chief Ronnie Rising said, with a limit of one child per family. The money raised goes to take the kids on a shopping trip, Rising said. We try to help about 15 to 20 kids.

Artists needed for Christmas Arts and Crafts Show

Items sold are required to be created by the artist or crafter, with no items purchased for resale. The show typically includes a variety of hand-crafted arts and crafts, including Christmas decorations and ornaments, clothing, stained glass, jewelry, quilts, dried flowers, wreaths and flower arrangements, photography, wood crafts, baskets, pottery, batiks, folk art and art in several mediums. Entries should be postmarked by Friday. Entries will be accepted through Nov.

Project Merry Christmas Plans Underway

Plans for Project Merry Christmas , the annual holiday program administered by the Marengo County Department of Human Resources have been announced for the coming holiday season. According to Mary Sue Henry, Project Merry Christmas Coordinator, Project Merry Christmas has been in existence since 1979. It began as a way to provide toys and gifts for foster children of the department and has evolved and expanded over the years to meet the needs of many needy children and adults at Christmas.
